The Home of Preparation H

Saturday's Cincinnati Preservation Association Holiday Home Tour was at 1840 Madison Road and the adjoining carriage house, now a private home. Built in 1903 for William Greene, general manager of the Big Four Railroad, in the 1930's it became home for George Sperti's Institutum Divi Thomae, a graduate school of scientific research. The house and carriage house, as well as the neighboring property, comprised the school that eventually was called the St. Thomas Institute for Advanced Studies. On these grounds Preparation H was invented, along with Aspercreme. The school closed in 1988 and evenually the buildings were sold. The current owner purchased the building and has restored it back to a single family residence.
