A multi-part series documenting the current events taking place on Fountain Square as well honoring some of its history and details.
In honor of all the events surrounding Fountain Square including Fountain Day and the Flower Carpet during April, Queen City Survey has declared this Fountain Square Month. Spring is a great time of the year on the Square as it really begins warming up for those outdoor lunches and gets us ready for the multitude of events during the summer.
April Events
We kick off Fountain Square Month with a listing of events coming up during the month of April.
Fountain Day
April 4
The second annual Fountain Day is sponsored by Raymond James & Associates, Inc, and will be celebrated with music, speeches, and fireworks on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory will officially welcome spring to the city and gave the signal to let the water flow. Everyone will share that magic moment when water flows once again from the hands of the Genius of Water atop the beautiful Tyler Davidson Fountain.
Red’s Opening Day
April 6
On Fountain Square, Opening Day is an all-day party. The traditional Findlay Market Reds Opening Day Parade passes by Fountain Square in the late morning, and in the afternoon, we'll watch the game on Fountain Square's video screen. Expect live music, giveaways, food and beverages in 2009.
Easter Egg Hunt
April 11
On the Saturday before Easter, join us in Fountain Square's annual traditional Egg Hunt - free to all with surprise guests and festive decorations. Sponsors include Biggs and Graeter’s.
P&G Flower Carpet
April 7 – 29
Cincinnati graphic designer Joel Knueven was commissioned to design the 2009 Flower Carpet. The 2009 Fountain Square Flower Carpet abstractly represents the change of seasons from winter to spring. The Flower Carpet is sponsored by P&G with in kind sponsors Natorp's.
And get ready because Saturday Night at the Movies are scheduled to begin on Fountain Square on May 2.
