Cincinnati’s Monday Sports Manager

A round-up of the week’s sporting news

Reds
This past week the Reds went 4 and 2, sweeping a three game series versus the Giants and pulling to 61-76 for the season. OK, so not great but at least it isn't the Pirates who are now in last in the N.L. Central and losers of ten in a row. Next Sunday I'm going to the game I think.

Bengals
Not sure what the biggest news of last week was . . .

1. Bengals release Deltha O'Neal, Willie Anderson, and Rudi Johnson
2. Bengals beat the Colts 27 - 7 on Thursday, playing a lot of Indy back-ups including the 3rd string Colts quarterback.
3. Carson breaks his nose.
4. And an injured Chad Johnson officially changes his name to Chad Ocho Cinco.

Seriously? I hope the Bengals make Johnson change his number to to 88 just to piss him off. Apparently he really is all about stunts and celebrations.

Bearcats
Bearcats open the 2008 season with a 40 - 7 win against Eastern Kentucky in front of 26,913 at Nippert Stadium. I thought it was a good crowd considering there was a Bengal's game on TV, Obama's speech and most importantly no students on campus yet. Big test comes this weekend when the Bearcats travel to Norman to play Oklahoma on September 6 at 3:30 PM.

One additional item of note is that they no longer allow fans on the field after the game. The price you pay of being in the Big East I guess. I wonder when beer sales will go away.
