Cincinnati’s Monday Sports Manager

A round-up of the week’s sporting news.

Bengals
The Bengals win three straight to finish 4 – 11 – 1 on the season. I am not really sure what it says about the Bengals as those last three wins came against the Redskins, Browns, and Chiefs who finished 8 – 8, 4 – 12, and 2 – 14 respectfully. The other win was against 5 – 11 Jacksonville and the tie was against the Eagles who did make the playoffs by winning their last 4 out of 5. However I am sure the Bengals will say they finished the year strong and Marvin will keep his job.

Bearcats
I leave for South Florida on Wednesday!

Looks like they have sold about 13,000 tickets according to this article in the Enquirer. A little disappointing. It is more than Virginia Tech sold and given the economy, I can see how it is not that bad. But considering it is the first time in a BCS bowl game, I thought we'd have a good chance of selling all 17,500.

Next Monday will be the last of these until football season 2009! Links in the side bar.

While I thought the ticket sales were a little diappointing, I heard that outside ticket buyers had to purchase Orange Bowl tickets in order to get their BCS Championship Game tix [which is in Miami a week later]. Therefore, people who didn't want to sit in the UC section in the endzone could buy those tickets people were dumping that could be between the 40.

So I would offer that falling just a few thousand short is pretty good.

Of course, I'm not going to Miami, so maybe I shouldn't speak.
