Cincinnati’s Monday Sports Manager

A round-up of the week’s sporting news

Bengals
Well, what do you know . . . the Bengals win their first game of the year with a 21 – 19 victory over Jacksonville in front of the home crowd at Paul Brown Stadium. I was especially please because I went to the game. I thought the defense looked good with three sacks and a ton of pressure on Garrard. Chad was a factor in the game on the field and sure likes to kiss off the field. Fitzpatrick played well enough, however he over threw his received more than once and had an interception. Cedric Benson had just over 100 yards rushing. The near goat of the game however was on Special Teams with Glenn Holt fumbling a kick-off return allowing the Jags to make it a 21 – 13 game in favor of the Bengals.
Bearcats
And the Bearcats actually started the winning ways last Thursday with an upset of then No. 24 ranked South Florida. The defense looked great and Pike played well in the 24 – 10 victory. That makes the UC football team 6 – 2 on the season and a trip to Morgantown awaits them this weekend to take on West Virginia. The Mountaineers are ranked 23rd in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and it looks to be a tough road game. The Bearcats are currently unranked in the Coaches’ Poll, although if you did the math they would be like tied for 33rd. This is a quality win that the Bearcats need.
