Originally built as Sts. Peter and Paul Church it was completed in 1940 and was designed by Edward J. Schulte & Robert Crowe. The interesting bit of trivia I learned from Schulte's autobiography is one steeple is named "St. Peter" and the other, "St. Paul". The cross on the top of the St. Peter steeple was designed to be upside down, as St. Peter was crucified. The craftsmen building the church however thought it was a mistake on the drawings, so both crosses match.
