Cincinnati March(itecture) Madness

Recap: Games 25 – 28

The four games of the ‘Elite 8’ round of Cincinnati March(itecture) Madness put an end to the hopes of the Cinderellas and all higher seeds advanced convincingly, setting up our ‘Final 4’.

In the East Region:
Game 25 – No. 1 seed Music Hall beat the No. 12 seed Bishop’s Place, 25 - 1.
Game 26 – No. 2 seed Carew Tower beat the No. 3 seed Spring Grove Cemetery, 17 – 8.

In the West Region:
Game 27 – No. 1 seed Union Terminal beat the No. 13 seed Memorial Hall, 23 - 1.
Game 28 – No. 3 seed Roebling Bridge beat the No. 7 seed City Hall, 18 - 6.

With less than four hours to go Union Terminal had a shut-out of Memorial Hall going that would have made it and Carew Tower the only buildings to hold their opponent scoreless in any given round. But it was not to be when Memorial Hall did finally score one. Carew Tower had the closest match but still won easily with 68% of the vote.

Four Facts about our Final 4:
  1. All four buildings were designed by different architects (or engineers).
  2. The neighborhood breakdown of where the buildings and sites are located: Downtown – 2; Over the Rhine – 1; Queensgate – 1
  3. All four are National Historic Landmarks
  4. Two buildings are from the 20th Century, two are from the 19th Century. Both 20th Century structures were built in the 1930’s and both are Art Deco.

The Regional Finals begin tomorrow to determine our top two!
