I was baking and I realized I was out of vanilla. I did not want to drive anywhere to go get some. And I was pretty sure from past experience that no downtown convenient store would have it. (Note: No one in the Central Business District carries buttermilk . . . or if they do I do not know about it.) So I decided to walk the three blocks or so to Kroger on Vine. I mean I really should have gone there before now. And now, looking back, I feel pretty stupid. I got a couple of inquisitive looks as I walked past old Wielert's Cafe and into the parking lot but no one really bothered me. Some guy even said hi. Once inside I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the interior was. It was small, but bright and colorful. I decided to pick up a few other things since I was there. It was pretty crowded for New Year's Eve and they have only four check-out aisles but I didn't have to wait too long. I was home in less than 30 minutes from when I left.

Full marks for knowing about Wielert's. Look around at the garden space in back sometime.
We've been to the OTR Kroger's a few times. I was also impressed by how bright it was. The store is larger than it looks from the outside.
My boyfriend picked up some buttermilk there for me a couple of weeks ago (he had a hankering for biscuits). I haven't ventured in (I usually run by HP Kroger's on my way home from work) but he says it's nice-- except there's very little fresh meat, fruits or vegetables. Some might argue that if you need any of those things, you might just go over to Findlay-- which is fine, but they're not open every day, and not open past 5 most days.
I need to venture in there myself.
