Baedeker: Baltimore

Thankfully, the Bengals’ divisional rivals, the Ravens, lost to the Miami Dolphins. I no longer have to be worried that the Bengals will have to face a still winless Dolphin team the last week of the NFL season. In honor of the Raven’s loss, here is a small tour of our second NFC North city, Baltimore. To be honest I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed Baltimore. There was a lot to do with a busy harbor and some cute neighborhoods. We stayed in Mt. Vernon and there was a lot within walking distance but it was away from the Inner Harbor area which we prefered. Other highlights were crab cakes from Lexington Market, Poe's grave, and killer 2 for 1 happy hours. Photos are from a September 2007 trip.

Author's Note: Baedeker was a German-based travel guide begun in 1827 by Karl Baedeker. These comprehensive guides were hugely popular in Europe, the United States, and throughout the British Empire. I have adopted the moniker for all my travel pieces beyond Cincinnati. Given its German history and stately influence, I thought it fitting for the Queen City. I actually first heard of them while watching the movie A Room with a View, where proper, Edwardian English ladies Lucy Honeychurch and her chaperon travel around Florence, Italy, Baedeker in hand.
