Weekend Warm-Up: May 8 – 10

My recommendations for something to do this weekend

It is officially Mother’s Day weekend. But I still subscribe to the notion that every day is Mother’s Day . . .

Kicking off the weekend there will be a grand opening happy hour celebration for the Findlay Market Biergarten on Friday, May 8th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Essen Strasse at Findlay Market (southwest corner of the Market House). The Biergarten will be open weekends during the summer and will compliment the live music that will be held throughout the summer and the already very popular wine tastings that are held at Market Wines. For more information, check out the Findlay Market website.

This is a big weekend for historic home tours. Cincinnati Preservation Association will be hosting “Upstairs, Downstairs” Saturday, May 9th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM which will be a self-guided tour of six historic homes in the Beechcrest-Madison Road area of East Walnut Hills. Then the Clifton Home Tour will be hosted the following day on Sunday, May 10th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Clifton neighborhood. There will be nine homes on this tour covering a wide range of styles. Soapbox had a nice summary of both events so go there to get the details in one handy spot.

The first Second Sunday on Main event of the summer is also this weekend. With a Mother’s Day theme, the festivities begin at noon and go until 5:00 PM on Sunday. There is some good music scheduled including Kelly Thomas & the Fabulous Pick-Ups at 1:00 who were fantastic at Mid-Point last year. For a complete summary of the day’s events, check out the website.

And if you are looking for more daytime activities, this is the second week of ARCHITREKS walking tours. This is the first weekend for Over the Rhine East & West on Saturday at 10:00 AM; Clifton on Saturday at 2:00 PM, and the new Northside tour at 11:00 AM on Sunday.

Also, do not forget the Red’s are in town this weekend with games tonight and Friday and Saturday nights and an afternoon game on Sunday. Is mom in to baseball? Bring her to the game.
