My recommendations for something to do this extended Memorial Day weekend.
While much of the weekend will be consumed by Taste of Cincinnati, there are a few other things going on that you may want to make part of your Memorial Day Weekend.
Just as important as all the food, beer, and fun of the weekend is remembering why there is a Memorial Day holiday in the first place.
A great place to observe Memorial Day is at Spring Grove who will have activities all weekend. First there will be a special Veterans Tribute Display in the Gwen Moody Funeral Home lobby Friday through Monday. Also, there will be a place to sign a “Thank You” banner that will be sent to troops currently serving in our military forces overseas. Then on Sunday and Monday a number of events will take place. Special ceremonies kick-off the remembrance on Sunday and Monday at 11:00 AM. Then there will be special “Living History” talks at 1:00 on Sunday and noon on Monday among the 1000 flags set up on the Civil War section of the cemetery. (These will be up all weekend as well.) And finally there will be a special Civil War themed tour split over the two days. Part I begins at 2:00 PM on Sunday and Part II begins at 1:30 PM on Monday.
Please check the special Memorial Day calendar on the Spring Grove website for details.
May Festival begins on Friday, May 22. Check the May Festival link in the sidebar for a full schedule of performances this weekend and next. (I’ll be there opening night.)
Then the Reds are in town this weekend with games Friday and Saturday nights vs. Cleveland. Then they will have afternoon games on Sunday (vs. Cleveland again) and Monday (vs. Houston). Houston will be in town until Thursday, May 28.
And finally Court-O-Rama wants me to remind you that Maurice & the Tempers have their CD release party on Saturday at the Redmore.
