ARCHITREKS Walking Tour of Walnut Hills!
This weekend get a preview of the Walnut Hills Walking Tour that is currently in development by ARCHITREKS. The free tour is being offered twice: Saturday, May 30 at 10:00 AM and Sunday, May 31 at 11:00 AM. The tour will leave from the Parkside Café at 1026 East McMillan Street.
This approximately two mile tour will cover Walnut Hills and parts of East Walnut Hills. We will start and end in Peebles Corner Business District but will make our way through the residential streets of Upland Place National Register Historic District and skirt the Woodburn Business District. ARCHITREKS hopes to get patron response as it continues to develop and finalize the tour content.
I will be one of the co-tour guides (along with another fellow blogger) but don’t let that stop you from attending!
Just some of the interesting sites we will see and/or talk about include:
The birthplace of the modern Greater’s
The oldest still standing fire station in Cincinnati
The 2nd oldest still standing Cincinnati Public School
A bathhouse
A fantastic collection of turn of the century apartment buildings
Homes of local department store magnates Carew and Pogue
These fantastic faces!
A nearby roller rink
A fabulous Swiss Chalet
And churches built for all kinds of denominations including Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal, Evangelical Lutheran, Baptist, and Presbyterian along with some you do not always see like New Thought and Christian Science.
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment or email.
I wish I could go because this sounds incredible. Unfortunately I have a thesis to complete and DAAP Works to prepare for.
