Let Them Eat . . . Lunch!

BlackFinn: 19 E. 7th Street, Downtown

We went to BlackFinn for lunch yesterday for one reason – The Grilled Meatloaf Special.

My small group of co-worker lunchgoers love meatloaf. We are regulars at Sports Page for their Meatloaf Special on Tuesdays. So when we saw that BlackFinn was showcasing meatloaf on Mondays, we had to try. We arrived a little before noon and there was a good crowd but we were able to get a seat. The interiors have been changed since McFadden’s (and Nick & Tony’s). The front area has been walled off for dining and the bar area has been made to feel more "pub-like" with the addition of some partitions, a second bar, and a generally cozier feel. The rear of the place, which was once sort of open, is now completely closed off for BlackFinn’s dance floor and lounge called "Suite". It too helps make the bar area feel a little more contained – in good way. Our server let us take a peak in the back and she showed us the separate entrance from the alley, the dance floor, and the VIP lounge areas.

So back to the food . . . For $7.99 we got grilled meatloaf with a mushroom Guinness gravy, mashed potatoes, and sautéed carrots. Drink was extra but I still thought it was a great value. Portions were good size and the food was very good. They grill the meatloaf on a griddle I assume and I really liked the mix of textures and taste it produced.

All-in-all, we will be back. I have to say I liked the food better than Sports Page but Sports Page is still cheaper. However, the manager was giving away $20.00 off dinner coupons as a "thank you" for stopping in. How cool was that!

Wine Me, Dine Me has a great review of BlackFinn here. She and Veggie Option have really great restaurant reviews on their sites. Informative and well written . . . Check 'em out if you are not already.
