Final Countdown: Bockfest

Bockfest Sausage Queen Competition

Ok, I saw that Bockfest was going to have a Sausage Queen Competition and I laughed a little. Then I saw one of the preliminary rounds was going to be at Shooters and I laughed a lot. I totally want a drag queen as the next Sausage Queen. Wild horses could not stop me from going to Shooters next Friday to witness the competition. I will be there and I offer up this: Introduce yourself and one of your beers is on me!

From the Bockfest website:

On Thursday March 6, Arnold's Bar and Grill, 210 East 8th Street, will host the Bockfest Sausage Queen Competition Finals. The competition will start at 8:30 p.m. The anointed Sausage Queen will walk a lead position in the Bockfest Parade on the following day, carrying the symbolic tray of Bockwurst sausage. The competion will include finalists from the preliminary rounds, held on February 22 at Shooters, February 29 at Buddakan, and March 1 at Miltons's.

A panel of "expert" judges (i.e. easily bribed) will determine the best applicant based on the following criteria:

1. Personality: Good traits will include a love of bock beer, a sense of humor, and a taste for meat (vegetarians need not apply).

2. Presence: Must look good carrying a sausage and have diva tendencies.
3. Talent: Whatever "talent" you think a Sausage Queen should possess is good enough for us.

The competition is gender neutral, and open to all shapes, sizes, and varieties of potential Bockfest royalty. The Queen will be required to walk the parade route on the following evening, and cannot be too much of a diva to not show up on time. The title will be held all year and it will be virtually impossible to have the crown revoked. In fact, a public make-out session with another pageant winner will almost certainly cause you to win next year as well.

Dan -

Thanks for the excitement about the Sausage Queen contest...I'm helping organize it this year - and let me tell you it is going to be fun, fun, fun.

You should compete - you can win $25 at the respective bar where you're competing and a case of Hudy Delight!
