Christmas in Over the Rhine Walking Tour
Did you know that the Hanke Department Store on Main Street was the first department store in Cincinnati to have a year-round toy department? Come see it and learn a little history on the commercialism of the Christmas holiday.
The "Christmas in Over the Rhine" Walking Tour, part of "Christkindlmarkt on Main", is at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 1 and leaves from Kaldi’s on Main Street.

Where can I find more information on the Christmas walking tour? It sounds really interesting. Thanks
I'm giving it so what do you want to know? Check out this excerpt from an article in this week's Downtowner:
A Historic Christmas Tour by Architrecks will step off from Kaldi's at 2 p.m. The tour will integrate some Cincinnati holiday traditions and the role of some Cincinnati institutions in the holiday. Some of the stops will be the former Civil War Barracks, former Hanke Department Store and Alms & Doepke Building, Doescher Candies, former Schaff's Chocolate Warehouse, and homes along Broadway. Christmas traditions will be explained at various stops, including the history of Ginger Bread (Lebkuchen) and fruitcake (stolen) at the Shadeau Bread stop, the history of the Christmas Card at Urban Eden, etc. Cost for the tour is $5.
We will be going in Below Zero and Verdin Bell.
I have other plans for Saturday, so I was wondering how long the tour takes, and where I can find information for future tours further in advance. I usually check the Architreks page on the CPA site, but I didn't see anything for this special event.
Thanks for the info.
Yeah, this was a special tour so there wasn't anything on CPA's website. Sorry. We decided we would do this with the Merchants of Main about a month or so ago. I've been trying to hype it as much as I could on this site and on the Events at UrbanOhio.com. Tour will be about 1 - 1.5 hours.
NEXT YEAR, Architreks is going to expand the tour to take in more site, including a trolley ride, and begin in Fountain Square so stay tuned!
